Department of Pediatrics Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital was founded in 1931. The first chief director was Kunitarou Takizawa, and his successors were Ren Miyake, Shigeru Mimura, Katsunobu Iwakawa, Seisaku Ajikata, Yosimasa Sano, Ken Watanabe, Sadahiro Kifune, and Kwanji Ozawa. Present chief director is Katsumi Torigoe since 1981. The department of pediatrics is dedicated to the health and well-being of children. Through 42-bed inpatient units and specialty clinics, the department of pediatrics has provided comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for children from birth through age 15. The 30-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specializes in the care of critically ill or premature newborns. Emergency Department provides expert care to severely ill and injured children 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hospital serves as a teaching hospital for physicians,nurses and other health professionals. The hospital is responsive to the community for health education, planning and program development in cooperation with appropriate community authorities.
